Requirement:

BA degree or AA degree with ESL/EFL teaching certificates.

Benefits:

Minimum monthly pay NT$ 60,000-68,000 depending on professional & academic qualifications, with end of contract bonus, perfect attendance bonus, and additional overtime pay & bonus, free Chinese lesson & staff trips, free meals, health insurance & ARC, and paid national holidays/vacation.

Kang Ning English School is a private English school established in 1986. The school has two departments, the Language Department, with mainly elementary and secondary school students, and Kindergarten Department (KD), with 3-6 years olds. Some of the LD students come twice a week for English instruction and some come everyday for different subjects in English. The KD students come everyday for all subjects in English. There are eleven full-time English-native-speaking teachers from all over the world. We provide a positive, stable & supportive educational environment with English speaking staff. The foreign teachers¡¦ turnover rate is the lowest in Hsinchu county. We are looking for English native-speaking educators with teaching passion. The KD is an immersion program in which teachers work from 9:00am to 6:00 or 7:30pm, the LD teachers work from 1:00am-9:30pm. Saturday hours are optional and all extra paid.

The school is located in Jhudong(or Chutung), Hsinchu County, with two branches in the same town. Jhudong is a medium-sized town with a population of 100,000, 3 colleges nearby, 30 minutes ride to the ocean & 5 minutes to mountains.

When Serena telephoned me in London to interview me, I was cooking lunch. I sat on my kitchen floor and was utterly relaxed, helped by Serena¡¦s warmth and professionalism. It was partly on the strength of our exchange that I decided to accept the job offer.

Kang Ning is a private English language school established 20 years ago with 500 students. The students are encouraged to speak only English while at school. A structured curriculum for every level enables teachers to plan lessons according to the students¡¦ needs. The maximum class size is 16 students. Books and other resources are readily available. The main branch at Judong houses the kindergarten and an impressive library; and offers free lunches. Although the branch at Erchong, 3 km away, is smaller, it is a cosy place to work in. Staff are genuinely kind and supportive. Apart from school-related and necessary matters (visa, accommodation), they will help with anything, from making a hospital appointment to buying tickets for a rock concert! The occasional free or heavily subsidised staff trips offer the opportunity for foreign and local staff to get together for fun.

Judong is a small but bustling town with a river surrounded by a low range of mountains, and has all the usual amenities. For those needing more excitement, it is an easy bus ride away to Hsinchu (30 minutes) and Taipei (1½ hours).

Moving to Kang Ning has been very rewarding for me as a teacher. From day 1

I was amazed at the level of competence the students possessed. As a result

of the environment as well as the quality of the teachers they¡¦ve had, the

kids here have developed really strong language skills. The staff members

here are friendly, helpful and very experienced, which made the transition

here really easy. With innovative programs like the Whale and Dolphin

classes, kids have room to develop at various levels, whether they¡¦ve

When my wife and I interviewed at Kang Ning we were impressed by the professionalism and organization of the school.

Rather than just accepting our application for employment based on our native speaking ability and experience, Serena (the owner of the school) asked us to demo teach portions of a class individually and then interviewed us personally. I enjoy the classes that I teach here; the level of the students is generally much higher than other students that I have taught in other schools while in Taiwan. Classes are relatively small and being able to refer to a fully formed curriculum really cuts down on my overall preparation time.

Chutung itself is a nice little town/city close to Hsinchu in north western Taiwan. It is small but has many conveniences such as drug stores, western fast food, a great night market and some good, cheap restaurants. It is close enough to Hsinchu that whatever you need but cannot find here is only a short distance away. On top of that it is probably the prettiest place that we have lived in almost 5 years in Asia and is surrounded by mountains that are excellent for weekend scooter rides and hikes. Rent is cheap and Taipei is only a 90 minute bus ride or a short High Speed Rail ride away so even though it has a small town feel it isn¡¦t isolated from places with more cultural attractions and activities.
